Read the specifications and view images of the leading outboard boat motors manufacturers jet drive products.

Outboard Jets

Jet drive outboard motors are exactly what they sound like – jet drive. They have propellers which is essentially a good thing since to worry about breaking or changing and also since they don’t have a propeller there is no possibility of an injury coming from someone getting too close to the prop or someone accidently engaging the motor for some reason. Another good thing is that when you hit an unknown object under the water you don’t have to worry about the damage to your screw.
Like the standard counterpart, you must match the proper sized engine to your boat or it will be highly inefficient and you won’t be happy with the overall performance, so the first thing that you need to do, is to thoroughly research before you buy. Ask questions and forget the hype you’re going to hear. Take the important information that you’re given and make comparisons. Keep in mind when you are buying that the most expensive model is not always the best.

The good thing about shopping for jet drive outboard motors these days is that you’re not limited to wherever you can drive to find the motor you are looking for. It most cases you can order it online and have it trucked to anywhere you want and still be able to save some money at the end of the day. The internet really has come a long way over the years and today you can find virtually anything if you apply yourself to the task.

Now, the water these motors work is they “suck in” water and blow it out the jet creating motion and your boat will go. Those using jet drive outboard motors find that their boats are highly maneuverable and are perfect for going through shallow water. They also tend to be more fuel efficient than the outboard motors with propellers on them when at low speeds however, as speed increases the economy changes significantly.

Only you can decide whether the jet drive outboard motors are good for you. For the most part there is really no limit to their application, but again, it depends on your needs.

Small Outboard Motors

Portable outboard motors are of course the most common way to propel your boat across the water. These units are completely self-contained with everything that is needed to motorize your boat and they are especially designed to hang on the rear of your boat to not only move it, but to steer it as well.

They are further designed to raise the motor up out of the water when there is danger of damage or even getting seaweed and other aquatic plants and foreign material fouled in the “screw”. When the boat is in motion the operator of the boat will sit in the rear by the transom and not only control the speed of the boat but also steering it as well.

There are different types of portable outboard motors and not all of them will be good in every situation as you may already realize. Now, you may be one that prefers not to row your boat using oars, so you may end up buying a small motor that is a couple of horse power to get you around your pond or lake. You certainly wouldn’t consider trying to mount a 60 horse power motor on it. It’s far too much and would likely sink the boat before you could even get anywhere. That said, you would want to try to put the smaller motor on a large boat either because then you would be barely moving, if at all.

So there are a number of different things to consider, and of course pricing may be one of those factors as well depending on your budget. Another consideration is whether or not you might want one of the portable outboard motors that are of the jet propulsion variety as opposed to one with a prop. It is said that these get much better fuel economy on the slower speed and so may be something else that you would like to consider before taking the plunge.

The most important thing, is to sit down and think about the type of boat you want to power, then choose the size of the motor based on that and then further choosing from the many different models available on the market.

Tohatsu Outboard

Tohatsu outboard motors are a good quality engine, but just like anything else you own, it must be properly cared for or it won’t last you very long. The manufacturers go out of their way of course to make sure the motor reaches you in fabulous condition, but with use, the things they do will wear away.

Among these issues you will find paint chipping and peeling away, clear coat being worn off and any number of other different things. It’s the nature of the beast. When it’s used it tends to get abused even if not intentionally. That said, there are some things that your motor but it doesn’t only apply strictly to Tohatsu outboard motors, it applies to all of them.

Where this paint and clear coat is gone, there will be rust and corrosion, even on the propeller. We all know that salt does some tremendous damage to our belongings such as our cars, and now you know about you outboard motor. When we drive our car through the salt after a good snow, the first thing most of us tend to do is run straight to the car wash to get the salt off. So, why wouldn’t you do that for your boat and your outboard motor? There are all kinds of responses to that question. The one heard primarily is “that’s what it was made for” and the response would be true, however that doesn’t make your motor any less vulnerable to the elements. So, taking proper care now that we know this becomes first priority.

Clean the boat and the motor thoroughly with fresh, clean water and allow it to dry. Buy some good touchup paint in your color(s) and touch up where there are dings and chips missing. Allow that to dry and then use a good marine grade clear coat to finish it off. Many people would argue that the process can get expensive at times, and it is also time consuming and the proper response to that would be which was more expensive – periodically repairing the paint and clear coat to prevent corrosion, or buying new Tohatsu outboard motors when yours goes south.

Suzuki Outboard Motors

Suzuki outboard motors have been consistently growing in popularity. This is especially so since they continuously introduce new models into the market. Add to that lighter and more fuel efficient models that maintain the speeds we need and you’ve got a winning brand hands down.

Let’s take a look at one model in particular. Now, to be sure this model is not going to be the best choice for every boat out there, but it is more intended to give you a good feel of what the company is doing as a whole. The engine in question is what is known as the DF60 model which is a 60 horse power motor that is a 3 cylinder unit containing 4 valves in each cylinder. This is one of the more remarkable Suzuki outboard motors in that it weighs some 130 pounds lighter than the engine it replaced. It also has a dual overhead cam and electronic fuel injection.

The motor is able to save substantial sums of money in operating it because of a system known as lean burn control that is built into it. The motor contains a 32 bit computer which plays services as the electronic control module that makes use of data provided to it by the engine itself which adjusts the air to fuel ratio according to the engines requirements.
This is just one example of the line of Suzuki outboard motors that are available. This particular model, as mentioned previously, may not be suitable for your needs, but chances are there is one out of the entire line that will do just the trick for you. It’s simply a matter of figuring out which one. The internet is a fantastic place to conduct your research, and then you can just as easily order you’re online if you like. If nothing else however, you can write down the model number and pay a visit to your local boating center to see if they have what you’re looking for. If it isn’t something that they normally stock, they may be able to order it for you though it may cost a little more to do it that way.

Johnson Outboards

Johnson outboard motors like many other motors are pretty much self contained engines. These motors “live” on the outside of the boat rather than inside. The size of these motors are measured in horse power and you will find there are a large variety of engines that will range from as little as 2HP to as many as 300HP. The size of the motor that you would choose of course would depend solely on what its intended use will be.

Now, depending on the size of the engine that you choose, it may have a fuel tank that is built in to it, or the gas tank may be a separate piece altogether which would connect to the motor with the use of a hose that is attached to the can. Some boats will use these Johnson outboard motors as the main driving force of the boat while others using smaller models use them simply for trolling. Therefore, it’s highly important that you understand what the motor will be used for before jumping to the expense to buy one.

You have to understand that not all of the Johnson outboard motors will be good for every application. Some motors are just too big for small boats, and vice versa so the first thing you need to do is to figure out what you want it to do. When you are putting a larger motor on a smaller boat, you have to be extremely careful or you could cause irreparable damage to your boat or possibly even kill someone, so make sure then that you know the ins and outs of the motor and its capabilities.
Throttle and steering controls are another consideration when buying Johnson outboard motors. Do you need remote steering and throttle controls? Or is your boat a small one where you will sit in the rear and steer by turning the engine? That also has to do with size of the motor as well, so you really have to either consult with a professional before buying anything if you are not already sure that you know 100% what you need.

Nissan Outboard Motors Specifications and Boat Motor Images

This page contains images and specifications for the full range of Nissan outboard motors for sale.

Navigate this site from the menu selection on the right and if you wish to leave a comment or an outboard motor review please use the box at the foot of any page. It will be reviewed and as long as it contains no advertising will be published. Outboard motor prices can be found in the various stores located through the page. E Bay listings are found on the homepage.

Nissan Outboard Motors

Nissan outboard motors have both 2 stroke and 4 stroke models depending on what they will be used for. Each different type of engine has its merits depending again on the use thereof. The 2 stroke engine is much lighter than the 4 stroke counterpart and so is used in applications where speed and quick acceleration are necessary while the 4 stroke on the other hand is more suitable when a smoother and more economical run is required.

Let’s a take a deeper look at Nissan outboard motors and each type starting with the stroke type. As was already mentioned, the 2 stroke engine will not only be lighter, but faster too. Repair is typically easier due to the fact that more parts will be readily available if there is a failure. These motors tend be command a higher resale prices as well. The real issues with the 2 stroke motor are that they are not exactly environmentally friendly and hence put more smoke and pollutants out in the air. Another issue with the models is that unless they are they are of the oil injected variety then the mixing must be done before it is put into the motor. Another con is that these engines produce a lot of noise and can be a bear to start. These Nissan outboard motors are best used with smaller boats.

Now, with the 4 stroke Nissan outboard motors, you’ll find that they run a lot more quietly and have a smooth idle. You’ll also find that they have a much better fuel economy and the engine is extremely reliable. On the other hand they are much more difficult and complex in the way they operate which means repairs will typically be more expensive. These motors are generally too heavy to use in a small boat so once again, the type of motor you’ll need will depend upon the application to which it will be applied.

So as you can clearly see, both types of Nissan outboard motors have their pros and cons so the best approach will be to look at what you want to put it on, and what you need it to do.

Evinrude Outboard Boat Motors Specifications and Evinrude Outboards Motor Images

This page contains information on Evinrude outboard boat motors including specifications on each individual model.

Navigate this site from the menu selection on the right and if you wish to leave a comment or a new outboard motors review please use the box at the foot of any page. It will be reviewed and as long as it contains no advertising will be published. Latest listings from E Bay are found on the homepage.

Evinrude Outboard Motors

Evinrude outboard motors are probably the most popular outboard motor there is today. Evinrude was founded in 1909 and the rest is history as they say. While the brand has changed hands several times since its creation, the quality if anything has only improved. In fact, current owner’s BRP recently won the Clean Air Excellence Award by the EPA.

These engines make use of efficient fuel injection and they also have a model called the MFE, or multi fuel injection. This baby can run on kerosene and all you have to do is move the switch and now you can use gas.

To this day Evinrude outboard motors are among the classiest on the market and they have only grown stronger since introducing the E-Tec engines. Like everything else, the type of motor you’re going to buy is going to be wholly dependent upon its use. All of this and more leave little doubt in anyone’s mind that Evinrude is indeed the leader of the pack when it comes to outboard motors.

Like its competitors you will find that the Evinrude outboard motors come in a variety of different sizes and models and the size of your boat will be the first deciding factor followed by the uses of the motor itself. You may have a large boat for instance, but you just want a small motor to troll about. On the other hand, you may need to replace the existing motor on your boat for some reason and so you’ll then want something much larger.

Whatever the case might be, find a motor these days is much easier than it once was. For example, technology has advanced so far, that now we are able to shop online for just about anything and this ultimately means great savings in many cases even when you add in shipping charges to truck your choice to you. Add to that the ability of most online retailers to sell things much cheaper because of the lower overhead costs and you’re looking at some substantial discounts making it well worth paying a shipping fee to get it to you.
